The only physical qualities about my paintings are the wooden frame, the canvas, and of course the paints I use. They provide surfaces for mental pictures captured in paint. Compared to images created through lens media they are the result of the desire to draw and paint from the subconscious releasing images from memory, imaginative thought and felt experience. They are inspired by treasured personal and borrowed objects, such as photographs and clothes. Many of my paintings, so far, relate to questions about whether I paint as an artist, or an artist who happens to be a woman and mother. How do my paintings reflect some or all of these aspects of these life experiences? This body of work forms a continuing theme exploring these questions and, from time to time ventures into the media of sculptural installation.
